Task 3: Equipment Proposal
Proposal I
New Media Equipment for our school:
Due to the fast new media development our school is trying to upgrade the schools media equipment. Our school always aims to provide the newest equipment to ensure the best learning environment for the pupils. Therefore, we are asking the city of Marburg for an amount of 50.000€ to give us the possibility to equip our school with new media.
Problem description:
Our school comprises two computer rooms, with altogether 21 computers. Besides, we have a laptop carriage with approximately 14 laptops. Further media equipment is: 2 Whiteboards, 7 media cabinets that comprise a flat screen, an audio system, a DVD player, etc. and a photocopy room with 3 photocopy machines.
In consideration of a number of approximately 1200 pupils and overall about 110 teachers this is not enough.
Most classes consist of about 30 pupils. Consequently, the computer rooms can be only used by one class at a time. Due to the insufficient number of computers the pupils often have to work in pairs, which causes a constraint in the selection of teaching methods and tasks and, in addition, it can affect the learning process of individual pupils negatively.
Thus, taking as well the 14 laptops in consideration, there can only be 3 classes, out of ca. 40, working with the computers simultaneously.
That applies to the media cabinets and the whiteboards within our school also. Both are really useful and adequate for the usage in class but the number is as well insufficient. One whiteboard is only installed and, therefore, used within the biology department. This leaves the rest of the classes with only one whiteboard to share among all the teachers, pupils and subjects.
A further difficulty is the photocopy room with only 3 machines for the overall 120 teachers. Often the teachers are not able to print their teaching material within the break time, which causes delayed class opening and even missing photocopies for the lessons.
Purpose:
As demonstrated the school needs much more media equipment to provide adequate media resources within our school. It is a given fact that the usage of new media in all different subjects ensures most often the best teaching methods and most productive learning.
Looking at Foreign language classes, for example, the use of new media, such as electronic translators and ebooks can support and improve the language lessons. New media supports both teachers and pupils. Nowadays it is really important for the future life of the pupils to know the variety of new media and the knowledge of those. These skills and the knowledge of new media tools are most often required in future jobs, university, apprenticeships, etc.

· 4 whiteboards permanently installed in 4 classrooms
· 2 moveable whiteboards for individual usage

· 2 Media cabinets ~ 1000€ each = 2000€
· 20 Computers + Monitors ~ 750€ each = 15000€
· 10 ebook reader ~ 150 € each = 1500€
· 10 electronic translators ~ 100 € each = 1000€
· 1 Photocopy machine ~ 1800€ each = 1800€
= 45.300€
Follow-up Costs:
· Additional software material ~ 1000€
· Maintenance of equipment ~ 3000€
· Fixture and installation ~ 1000€

Perspective:
This new media equipment will help our school to upgrade our classroom equipment and, thus, our teaching and learning quality within the school. Therefore, we would be really thankful if you would approve our equipment proposal due to the given necessity.
